GCF Knuckles Project

The GCF Knuckles project enhances the harmony of thriving forests and diverse wildlife with sustainable livelihoods. By addressing both conservation and community needs, the project contributes to preserving the unique biodiversity of Knuckles while uplifting local livelihoods.

The project supports 1.34 million people (51.4% women) through climate-resilient livelihoods while safeguarding 346,000 hectares of ecosystems. It focuses on land management, including streamside protection and sustainable agriculture; financing mechanisms, like green value chains and payment for ecosystem services; and institutional capacity building, with governance frameworks and rural advisory services.

This component envisages the implementation of output 1.1 ‘Improved land and water management in upstream catchment areas to safeguard production of environmental goods and services’, which comprises of the following three activities

This component envisages the implementation of output 2.1’Upgraded and more efficient green value chains and increased links to new markets developed’, which comprises of the following three (3) activities

Institutional capacity strengthened

This component envisages the implementation of output 3.1 ‘Governance mechanism for sustainable land management and productivity enhancement in the upstream catchment area established, which comprises of the following three (3) areas.
